Structural configuration: built in the XVII century from the plans by the architect Pietro Spazzi. The sanctuary was inaugurated in 1678 but over the years has undergone a number of different expansions and renovations. The guest is greeted by a beautiful porch with frescoes by Carlo Carloni and a churchyard with 19th century decorations that is fenced in by an ancient balustrade. The facade decorated with cornices and pillars hosts a statue of the Madonna of Loreto. The interior of the sanctuary has a marble altar with a multicoloured front of the 1700s that is the work of Francesco Solari.
The structure was built to resemble the house of the Madonna. The Christian tradition tells that angels transported Maria’s house directly from Palestine to Loreto. This was why the Madonna of Loreto was declared the “Patron of aviators”.
The feast of the Sanctuary is celebrated in the last weekend in January, from Sunday to Monday, three days of solemn celebration in which the highly venerated Madonna Nera di Lanzo(Black Madonna of Lanzo) is displayed and carried in procession.
