The Church of Saint Thomas is distinguished by being mentioned in local tradition as an “Aula Teodolindae” (place of Queen Teolinda) and therefore has very ancient origins and rises on a steep promontory that spills on the Valle Caurgola, a tributary of the Telo di ArgegnoRiver.
This study is based on previous studies and presents a previously unpublished evolution of the current building that makes use of reconstructions of local history and the territory between the Lario and Cesario to also demonstrate by means of the surveys carried out by Milan University in 2010 that the area was effectively involved by the presence of Queen Teodolinda.
The study gives clear elements on the primitive construction and on the characteristic “tower of Teodolinda” in the late-Roman period and of a Longobard chapel (included in the current building). It also increases the knowledge of historical characters that emerge in the course of local history with many references to places and works in the territory of Como between Lario and Ceresio.
In particular, it extends devotional knowledge through photographic documentation and quotations from texts, on artistic works, civil and religious personalities that gave prominence to the territory.
